Companies are now applying the same real-time location system (RTLS) technology to reduce the risk of virus transmission in workplaces during the current crisis. These systems can help organisations support social distance and contact tracing among employees. Once implemented, it works on two levels.
- First, it encourages employees to maintain an appropriate distance from one another, especially when too many employees are congregating closer than a pre-set distance.
- Second, if an employee tests positive for the virus, the system can identify anyone who stayed within six feet of that employee for a specified period during the previous 14 days.
This contact tracing process enables companies to confidentially identify and notify employees who may have been exposed to an infected worker, without using personally identifiable information.
