United Safety successfully conducted dispersion modeling that mapped satellite topography data from a 1-arcsecond (750 m2) grid resolution into a QRA that identified the largest risk sources and determined practical solutions to make well operations safer.
Challenge:
Conduct a QRA to study levels of risk from H2S and SO2 releases over complex terrain; identify risk reduction measures if risk exceeds permissible limits
Solution:
Using CFD dispersion modeling techniques, several viable options to reduce risk from drilling and well testing activities were identified.
Result:
Potential well releases were modeled with complex terrain and total risk to the public and personnel was quantified. Suggestions to reduce risk to acceptable levels were provided.
