Confined space entry is one of the most hazardous tasks during any turnaround or shutdown. TeQ Shield™ GUARDIAN is United Safety’s remote confined space monitoring system family. Every GUARDIAN system brings access control, live video, gas detection and two-way communication together, so your safety team can watch every confined space entry from one command center. United Safety deploys GUARDIAN systems for turnarounds, shutdowns and other confined space work.
The GUARDIAN system has evolved into TeQ Shield™ GUARDIAN-PRIME, the flagship of the family, built for complex, long-term and high-demand confined space projects, with up to four cameras per access point, integrated gas detection and a self-healing wireless mesh.

What is a remote confined space monitoring system?
A remote confined space monitoring system lets a safety team supervise confined space entries without standing at every manway. Equipment at each entry controls who goes in, streams video from inside the space, reads gas levels and keeps workers in voice contact. Everything is sent to a command center, where operators watch all spaces at once and respond as conditions change.
With a proven record in turnarounds and shutdowns worldwide, the original GUARDIAN system moved turnaround teams from manual safety watches to digital confined space monitoring. It helps you unify and centralize confined space safety, gives continuous awareness of every entry and reduces the standby personnel needed at each one. That system has now evolved into GUARDIAN-PRIME, the flagship of the TeQ Shield™ GUARDIAN family.
Flexible, versatile, centralized. Confined space monitoring just got more efficient
With a proven record in turnarounds and shutdowns worldwide, our confined space monitoring system, TeQ Shield™ GUARDIAN, helps you unify and centralize safety operations. It delivers continuous awareness of all confined space activities, helping to mitigate risks and improve decision-making.
The system links with area monitoring (PTZ), vehicle gates, and entry points such as turnstiles to ensure efficient access control. It monitors workers across large areas of over 5 kilometers, ensuring that everyone is clearly accounted for. It also logs and synchronizes data with video so that owners can review incidents.
As a result, the system significantly reduces costs, lowers liability, and simplifies site management by reducing the number of personnel required on site. In addition, it offers a flexible design that scales to meet site-specific requirements.
GUARDIAN-PRIME: next-generation technology
GUARDIAN-PRIME was built from the ground up on our global turnaround experience, taking GUARDIAN to long-term, high-demand projects.
New Method for Confined Space Management
On one turnaround project, TeQ Shield™ GUARDIAN system monitored 12 confined space entries at the same time, 24 hours a day. Each entry had two cameras, giving the command center 24 live views, plus 12 access control devices and 12 interior communication devices. Gas levels for H2S, CO, LEL and O2 were monitored continuously around the clock. Contractors needed only one hour of training to use the system, and 450 access cards were issued, each carrying the worker’s name, company, certifications and trade. The system was rigged in over four 12-hour shifts.
Key components of Remote Confined Space Monitoring System

Allows authorized individuals to gain access to a confined space with their site badge. When the badge is scanned a clear red/green light notifies the worker if access has been granted. The access control component allows for both an accurate count of who is present in the space, and also doubles as an emergency lighting and evacuation system. In GUARDIAN-PRIME, badge-in and headcount run through the High-Clarity Badging Module.
