New learning methods for the new generation of Oil and Gas workers at APDT conference

The tenth biennial International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Asia Pacific Drilling Technology Conference (APDT) will be held 25-27 August 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand under the theme “Driving Sustainable Growth Through Technology and Innovation”.

United Safety’s take on innovation at the event relates to the way we connect with the young workforce joining the industry in order to train and educate them. Our published Executive Vice President, Dr. Elie Daher will be presenting his paper, “New Learning Methods To Connect With The New Generation Of Workers In The Oil And Gas Industry” on Monday 25th, at 15:00,Lotus Suite 11 as part of the technical session HSE and Competency, which Mr. Daher is also chairing.

The paper reflects on how learning methods have changed dramatically in the last 20 years, resulting in an automation of the online training process delivered and tracked through the Learning Management System. However, with a rising disillusionment with e-learning and its effectiveness, managers feel like it has failed to deliver on early promises while, on the other hand, employees are understandably unenthusiastic about having to plough through hours of online courses on their own. In order to provide cost-effective training while addressing the need for human support, the blended learning was conceptualized, and this is the stage where most companies are at the moment.

We are now beginning to see a new phase of workplace learning, with new information and communication technologies unleashing radical new opportunities.

If you are attending this event, don’t miss Dr. Daher’s presentation for a comparison between traditional and new learning methods and an action plan for Oil and Gas companies to adopt should they desire to ride the new wave of learning methodology.
