United Safety at the Middle East PetroTech ConferenceUnited Safety will share insights on managing large-scale turnarounds at the Middle East PetroTech Conference.

Taking place in Manama, Bahrain from 18 to 21 May 2014, the conference focuses on the downstream sector of the Oil and Gas industry. It will address the latest issues of widespread interest to refineries and petrochemical companies and their relevance to the Middle East region.

This year’s theme is “Downstream Value Chain Integration Opportunities”. It invites experts to contribute their knowledge and practical application on technologies and processes that directly led to optimal utilization assets, minimized cost and maximized value.

One of the highlights of Petrotech is the high quality of the technical program, based around several networking and educational opportunities, such as technical presentations, case studies and panel discussions led by thought-leaders.

United Safety will contribute to this high-level pool of knowledge by sharing approaches and lessons learnt on managing a large-scale turnaround.

A major IOC planned its biggest turnaround in history in a heavy oil up-grader / refinery in North America. The major challenge was to ensure that safety aspects on the project were properly managed. This task was broken down into manageable chunks which included ramping up to get over 300 safety personnel in a short time, managing training and permitting, providing gas detection systems and breathing air for over 3500 workers. A proactive approach had to be utilized with a very early planning cycle to ensure adequate sourcing, surveying, centralized dispatching, mitigating potential risks and communicating effectively with all stakeholders and contractors.
