United Safety presents two technical papers at SPE’s Asia Pacific Conference in JakartaBetween October 22-24, 2013, United Safety will be presenting two technical papers at the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ (SPE) Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The technical papers are authored by United Safety’s Dr. Elie Daher, Executive Vice-President and Chief Marketing Officer and Darrell Dowd, Vice President for Industrial and Operational Safety and Integrity Management Services (OSIMSTM).

Dr. Daher’s technical paper SPE 165611 entitled, “The Human Chain – A Different Approach to Behavior Safety Program Through the Use of Social Marketing Concepts” emphasizes the importance of understanding real human behavior as an integral part of safety programs.

“The most vulnerable workgroup in the Oil and Gas industry to resort to unsafe behavior are the young workers. This presentation features social marketing, an innovative way of promoting behavior safety among young workers that has proven consistent reports of positive changes in both safety behavior and accident rates,” states Dr. Daher.

Meanwhile, Dowd’s technical paper SPE 166315 entitled, “Improving EH&S Practices during Turnarounds in Facilities and Plants: A Process of Knowledge Capture and Transfer worth Implementing” will focus on how to ensure the capture and dissemination of the wealth of knowledge generated during plant turnarounds and how to make proper use of these best practices and lessons learned.

Both papers are especially relevant to the Asia Pacific region. According to the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the region’s industry has a big gap where mid-career professionals are scarce. The SPE sees a crucial role for experienced professional to do the balancing act of ensuring project quality while mentoring young professionals up to “stand-alone quality.”

“Projects of all types represent an increasingly significant challenge and an increasingly significant opportunity. What we do today, should improve tomorrow through a clear process of knowledge capture and transfer,” states Dowd whose technical paper will discuss the importance of developing a learning organization that encourages mentoring between experienced safety professionals and young workers.

Since 1987, United Safety has worked hard to become a global leader in providing specialized safety equipment, personnel and services to various customers across the globe.
