United Safety shares knowledge transfer best practices at SPE’s ATCE in New Orleans

02 October 2013

On September 30 to October 2, 2013, United Safety will attend the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ (SPE) Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) at New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Darrell Dowd, Vice President for Industrial and Operational Safety and Integrity Management Services (OSIMS™) will be presenting a technical paper entitled, “Improving EH&S Practices during Turnarounds in Facilities and Plants: A Process of Knowledge Capture and Transfer worth Implementing.

For the past 89 years, ATCE has been the leading technical conference in the Oil and Gas Exploration & Production world. It brings together emerging technologies, state-of-the art innovations, leading-edge companies and organizations and thousands of engineers, scientists, managers, and executives from more than 50 countries across the globe.

Dowd’s technical presentation will focus on how to ensure the capture and dissemination of the wealth of knowledge generated during plant turnarounds and how to make proper use of these best practices and lessons learned in order to impact the efficiency and effectiveness of projects while keeping everyone safe.

Turnarounds are expensive. They also present a host of challenges that need to be solved. But downstream operators and plant managers need to look beyond these factors and realize the tremendous opportunity for organizational improvement across all sectors,” states Dowd.

The tremendous opportunity to learn and improve is lost when companies just hand in a piece of paper to the turnaround service provider at the beginning and end the process with the service provider submitting an invoice upon completion. Between the start of the turnaround until the demobilization period, turnarounds are replete with lessons that companies can use to be more efficient for the next turnaround,” adds Dowd.

United Safety has provided safety services and rental equipment for over 700 turnarounds and shutdowns. Our industry-leading quality, people and proprietary processes ensure zero incidents and improve productivity.
